I have not; but my mom has been reading it and has brought it to my attention a few times when we've been speaking about situations in the US, Florida in particular, and also such topics as Juneteenth.

She has said it is a very interesting and informative book. She has not commented further, because I haven't read it yet, and therefore...

However, I'm ... is this a different book from "The 1619 project : a new American origin story / edited by Nikole Hannah-Jones" ?

(Which reminds me "How to be an antiracist" by Ibram X. Kendi is back in stock at my local branch and that was what I planned on reading next.)

@Truck yes, that is the book. I saw on Instagram today that Ibram X Kendi has revised and updated How to be an Antiracist.

And, I must say l'm glad I had the opportunity to update it. Because being antiracist is a journey. A journey to transform ourselves as we transform society. And my journey, as a human being and as a scholar, did not end when the hardcover arrived in the summer of 2019 and the New York Times called it "the most courageous book to date on the problem of race in the Western mind." My journey did not end when millions of people demonstrated against racism and police violence in the summer of 2020. My journey did not end when the racist backlash came in order to maintain a world of racial injustice and inequity, by reinforcing racist power and policy, by keeping everyday people trapped in their own denial, believing wholeheartedly that they are "not racist" or they can't be racist. My journey continued. My self-reflecting and researching and learning continued as the world kept changing and remaining the same. This revised paperback edition reflects this growth in my thinking- and the research-since 2019. This new edition includes updated data, terminology, and an enhanced notes section. It also features something entirely new and necessary: annotations.

I like to feel like I’m reasonably well-informed about history and about racial issues, but Dr. Hannah-Jones' compilation was jammed with novel - and heart-breaking - information for me.

These scholars, authors, and poets bring the receipts. I'm just flabbergasted at the number of degreed, bad actors providing pushback. The hacks, I get.

Wish we could lure NHJ to Mastodon!
