I’ve mentioned Organizing Black in Baltimore before, but I think they provide a wonderful example of the synergy between advocating for abolition and participatory budgeting. www.organizingblack.org. As part of their goals Organizing Black has a list of demands on their website. Included within them is a demand to defund the police to the tune of $100 Million. 5/8

They didn’t get the money this go round but they made the seriousness of their demands know to bot the city government and the community at large. Budgeting work is hard. It’s not something I can do because my eyes glaze over as soon as spread sheets come out. But some of you have those kinds of skills. If you want to learn more about participatory budgeting, want to see models or other resources on how to get involved where you live check out Organizing Engagement. https://organizingengagement.org/models/participatory-budgeting/ 8/8
